Carbon FiberReinforced Polymer (CFRP) is composed of carbon fiber as a reinforcing material and resin as a matrix material. The early carbon fiber reinforced composites are mainly used in the military field. With the improvement of material properties, forming technology and the decrease of price, carbon fiber composites are more and more used in general industry and sports and leisure fields.
Information
Carbon fiber can improve the elastic modulus of polypropylene, but reduce the tensile strength, impact strength and elongation at break.
The carbon fiber has a certain heterogeneous nucleation effect on PP, which increases the non-isothermal crystallization peak temperature and grade of PP matrix, and promotes the formation of β crystal type in PP matrix.
Polypropylene is easy to nucleate and crystallize at the end of carbon fiber section during isothermal crystallization.
EPDM-g-MAH and SEBS-g-MAH have good dispersion in PP matrix, which significantly improves the impact strength and elongation at break of PP. The PP/CF composite material with EPDM-g-MAH and SEBS-g-MAH has higher impact strength and elastic modulus.
The addition of toughening agent in PP/CF composite results in the decrease of nucleation ability and crystallization growth rate of PP matrix.
The crystal type of PP/CF composite was not changed by the toughening agent. The nucleation of carbon fiber became obvious in the PP/CF composite, and the spherulites mainly grew near the carbon fiber.

Application
